The Windows (pt 2)

Everything was going so well, Chrissie and I went away for a bit of RnR to Studland Bay, and while eating the breakfast got a call about the windows. The front windows had NO sill (or is it Cill, the debate still rages). We knew that a bit of ply had been planted on the top of the sill and needed removing, but underneath there was nothing but air, all fir coat and nae knickers. It was too big a job for Julian. On Monday (24th) we had Sam from Chichester shutters come round to check the final measurements so we could order...not any more. We had decided to order the upstairs windows because we would need privacy, but we could not order the downstairs ones. Sam was very understanding, and suggested we contact Richard Couzins, who had a workshop in Funtington, just down from Pauls garage.

Richard came by on Tuesday, gave me a quote, I accepted and boom! he got to work. It is painful to watch as he takes the windows apart, but Richard and Martin have already made all the new sills (acacia hardwood ) and have started fitting them today (Thursday)

Richard (inside) and Martin get the bricks removed to get access. If you look very carefully you can see that 2 courses above the floor there re bits of wood set into the wall, these were eaten away by woodworm, but were originally for nailing skirting boards to. The wood worm ate only the soft, sappy outer bit of the tree, and left the harder inner bit alone
